Jeroen Drummen è un giovane fotografo di talento che vive a Masstricht (Paesi Bassi).
A dire il vero, il suo amore per l’arte è davvero vasto: infatti ha composto finora una sorprendente quantità di pezzi musicali, qualcosa tra Enya degli inizi e Vangelis. Inoltre gira e monta i suoi video. Mezzi visuali e sonori per la sua creatività. Nel suo sito si possono ascoltare le sue composizioni e ammirare la sua fotografia.
Ogni fotografo ha il suo peculiare punto di vista sul mondo, così ho voluto vedere attraverso la sua lente, per così dire, e scoprire come mai Jeroen ama l’autunno in particolare e cosa infonde nelle sue creazioni quando decide di premere il pulsante dello scatto.

Mi piace molto fare passeggiate nella foresta: le foreste hanno una certa magia durante la stagione autunnale, l’incredibile aria nel paesaggio (cieli minacciosi attraversati dai raggi del sole, arcobaleni, nebbia). Poi preferisco le temperature miti, l’estate è troppo calda per me. E amo il vento che soffia.
Comunque l’autunno caratterizza per me anche la fine di un periodo e mi dà l’opportunità di iniziarne un’altro (migliore).
C’è qualcosa che ti piace meno di questa stagione?
L’unica cosa è che i giorni diventano più corti e c’è meno luce solare. D’altro canto, visto che diventa buio presto, posso dedicarmi prima alle foto notturne.
Quali caratteristiche di questa stagione pensi che la fotografia possa facilmente catturare?
Sicuramente i molti colori delle foglie. Oltre a questo, la maggior parte delle foto autunnali si concentrano su funghi ma anche ghiande e castagne sul terreno, insetti (specialmente i ragni e le loro ragnatele).
E cosa pensi che, al contrario, sia davvero difficile tradurre in un’immagine fotografica?
I raggi del sole sono una vera sfida per il fotografo. Se sei capace di fare questo, potresti creare alcune delle migliori foto autunnali, secondo me. Immagina la foto di una foresta, un ruscello che riflette i meravigliosi colori degli alberi e i raggi del sole che attraversano i rami.

Hai mai pensato di fotografare lo stesso luogo in diversi momenti dell’anno?
Di solito preferisco esplorare nuovi ambienti. Comunque ci sono alcuni luoghi che visito più frequentemente, per esempio il paese dove sono nato, e a volte ti capita di fotografare dallo stesso punto di vista ma in una stagione diversa. Ogni stagione ha il suo fascino e le fotografie non saranno mai le stesse.
Qualche anno fa sono andato per diversi mesi in un posto chiamato Eijsder Beemden per catturare il ciclo di vita dei cigni, dalla schiusa delle uova fino all’età adulta. È stato davvero speciale e commovente.
C’è qualche posto, momento del giorno o tempo atmosferico che ti piacerebbe fotografare in futuro?
Troppi per menzionarli tutti. Ma ho una preferenza per i tramonti: adoro i cieli arancioni e le forme create dalla retroilluminazione. È persino più spettacolare quando il sole si riflette sull’acqua, ecco perché mi piace andare sulla spiaggia.
Il mio più grande sogno è di andare in posti come la Nuova Zelanda e il Canada: credo sia un walhalla per gli amanti della natura e i fotografi.

You told me autumn is your favourite season. May I ask you why?
I really like to take forest walks. Forests are more magical during the autumn season: the mixed colors of the trees (green, red, orange, yellow), mushrooms, but also leaves, acorns and chestnuts on the ground, the incredible air landscapes (threatening skies with breaking sunrays, rainbows, frog).
I also prefer mild temperatures, summer is too warm for me. Further I love the blowing of the wind.
However autumn also typifies the end of a period for me and gives me the opportunity to start a new (better) one.
What do you like the less of this season?
The only thing I dislike about autumn is that the days become shorter and there is less sunlight. On the other hand, if it becomes dark early, you can focus on night pictures at a very early time.

What characteristic of the season do you think the photography can easily capture?
The most recognizable thing of autumn pictures are the mixed colors of the leaves in the trees. Beside that, autumn pictures mostly have a focus on leaves, acorns, chestnuts, insects (especially spiders and their webs).
And what do you think is in the air but extremely complicated to translate into a picture?
One of the most difficult parts of photography is capturing the sun rays in a good way, it’s a big challenge for the photographer. If you are able to do this, you can create one of the most fine autumn photos in my opinion. Imagine a picture of a forest with a stream that reflects the beautiful colored trees and the sun rays breaking through the branches.
Have you ever considered to take a picture of the very same place in different times of the year?
It’s quite often in my mind. But most of the time I prefer experiencing new environments. However there are some places I visit more often, for example my hometown. And sometimes you shoot from the same point of view in another season. Every season has their own charm, so the pictures are never really the same.
A few years ago I came quite often in a natural environment called Eijsder Beemden for several months to capturing the life cycle of the swans there, from hatching till the growing up to adults. It was really special and heartwarming to see.
Is there any place, time of the day or particular weather you wish to be able to photograph in the future?
Too many to mention. My personal favorite kind of pictures are sunsets: I really love orange skies and the silhouettes the backlight creates in the pictures. It’s even more spectacular when you have the sun reflecting in the water. That’s why I really love to go to the beach.
My biggest wish is going to countries like New-Zealand and Canada. I think it’s a walhalla for nature lovers and nature photographers.
